«Tuned to those frequencies so young»
Lhaga Koondhor is a curator and cultural producer who lives between Zurich and the mountains. A conversation about the sounds of a monastery, the dzi stone and life on the move.
Which place shaped you most – and how can one tell today?
A monastery. Early on, I came into contact with the monks’ instruments and the vibration of their prayers. Only later did I realize how much that shaped me: having been tuned to those frequencies so young, I’ve always been drawn to sounds other people call noise, to abstract and experimental music.
What draws you to the shape or the material of a particular piece you wear?
My dzi, the eye stone. It’s thousands of years old and has seen more than I have, so I try to take it somewhere interesting. If you’re wearing one too, we’re basically related.
Between which places does your life move – and what always travels with you?
Between Zürich, the mountains, and whichever project takes me next.
What always travels with me? My curiosity and my phone.
Describe your style in three words.
Rooted, curious and unexpected.
