Old Tibetan hand prayer mill from Ladakh
This older prayer mill (Mani mill) from Ladakh with traces of use shows a high-quality design typical of the region. The cylindrical mill body is completely covered in dark leather. The mill body has metal fittings all around and is decorated with turquoise and two red corals . This colour combination is traditional and symbolizes protection, vitality and spiritual energy. The upper end cap and the lower rosette plate are made of white metal and feature floral relief motifs. The top is shaped like a lotus, a common Buddhist symbol for purity and enlightenment.
A short leather cord with a heavy metal ball is attached to the side. The long handle is made of wood with metal cuffs at the joints and end. Significant signs of wear, discoloration and patina on the wood and metal parts indicate prolonged ritual use.
The overall design is slender and balanced, typical of portable prayer wheels from Ladakh, which were often used by pilgrims or monks.
Dimensions and weight:

- Take a ring that fits well.
- Place it on a ruler and measure the inner diameter (from one inner edge to the other).
- Compare the diameter with the table to determine the ring size.
- Take a thin strip of paper or thread.
- Wrap it around the part of the finger where you want the ring to sit (not too tight).
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Measure the length of the strip in millimeters. This is the inner circumference.
- Find the right size in the table.
- Measure the finger size in the evening, as fingers swell slightly during the day.
- If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.
- Make sure that the ring fits over the knuckle.
