Traditional Lota water vessel made of brass
This handcrafted lota originates from the Indian-Nepalese cultural area and is made of solid brass. The harmoniously rounded shape with the wide opening is typical of vessels that were used both in everyday life and in a ritual context.
In the Hindu and Buddhist tradition, the lota is used as a water vessel for purification and blessing rituals or is filled with flowers, leaves or holy water on altars. It was also used on a daily basis - for drinking, washing hands or in spiritual morning rituals.
The gentle patina and small traces of use give the piece its special character and tell its story.
Provenance: The object comes from a private collection. It was acquired in Nepal around 1960. Details on request.
