Coral, turquoise, tourmaline and freshwater pearl necklace

Unusual, long necklace made from freshwater pearls with a diameter of 4 mm, which are interspersed with needle-shaped coral, spherical turquoise and faceted tourmaline beads. The necklace has a circumference of 88 cm. It was handmade in the Atelier Tibet in Zurich.

Corals have a deep spiritual and cultural significance in traditional Tibetan jewelry. The red precious coral (Corallium rubrum) is particularly prized. In combination with turquoise and silver, coral beads are a characteristic element of Tibetan prayer beads(malas), amulets and ritual jewelry. As Tibet is a landlocked highland, coral was imported from the Mediterranean and the Southeast Asian region via centuries-old trade routes. Nowadays, precious coral is strictly protected, which is why modern Tibetan jewelry is made with old, recycled coral or sustainable alternatives.

In Tibetan jewelry, turquoise is traditionally used as a symbol of protection, prosperity and health and is an important component of many spiritual and cultural amulets and pieces of jewelry.

Tourmaline is a versatile gemstone that occurs in almost all colors and is valued for its extraordinary variety of colors. It belongs to the group of ring silicates and has a complex chemical composition that gives it its characteristic physical properties. It is said to act as a protective stone, dissipating negative energies and promoting well-being.
