Old yak milk jar from Nepal or Tibet
This hand-carved wooden vessel originates from the Himalayas - from rural regions of Nepal or Tibet - and was traditionally used to store or process yak milk. Such vessels were used in everyday life by nomadic or farming families, for example for butter production (e.g. for making ghee or buttermilk) or for storing fresh milk directly after milking.
The vessel was made from solid, dark hardwood. It was worked from a single piece and elaborately decorated with carved ornaments and traditional patterns. Particularly striking is the handle carved out of the wood, through which a braided carrying cord made of natural fiber is threaded - typical for transportable utility vessels in the highlands.
The strong patina, visible signs of wear and discoloration on the inside are evidence of intensive use over many years. The carved motifs and the design reflect not only practical use, but also deep craftsmanship and cultural roots.
Provenance: The object comes from a private collection. It was acquired in Nepal around 1960. Details on request.

- Take a ring that fits well.
- Place it on a ruler and measure the inner diameter (from one inner edge to the other).
- Compare the diameter with the table to determine the ring size.
- Take a thin strip of paper or thread.
- Wrap it around the part of the finger where you want the ring to sit (not too tight).
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Measure the length of the strip in millimeters. This is the inner circumference.
- Find the right size in the table.
- Measure the finger size in the evening, as fingers swell slightly during the day.
- If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.
- Make sure that the ring fits over the knuckle.
