Lokta paper is made by hand from the bark of the Lokta shrub in an elaborate process. This is boiled, crushed, scooped out of the water and dried in the sun until the robust yet velvety-soft structure is created. The robust, long-lasting paper is known for its unique texture and natural variety of colors. Lokta paper production is an important source of income for Nepalese communities and is considered sustainable as the bark of the shrub grows back quickly. We have our wrapping paper and other products made by a Nepalese women's collective. Each sheet is unique, irregularities are part of the charm of this natural product.
