Lokta paper notebook—floral motifs, hand-printed

These handmade notebooks are delicate and decorative: floral patterns of blossoms, leaves, and delicate scrolls wind across the covers—complemented, depending on the design, by butterflies, birds, or sprigs of berries. The color schemes range from natural white with dark printing to bold red on yellow to tone-on-tone patterns in green or blue; some designs feature a gold-colored floral print. Lokta paper is painstakingly handcrafted from the bark of the lokta shrub: it is boiled, pounded, scooped out of the water, and dried in the sun until it develops a texture that is both sturdy and velvety soft. It is known for its unique texture and is considered sustainable because the shrub’s bark regrows quickly—and it is also an important source of income for Nepalese communities.
