Dzi bracelet with agate beads

A striking bracelet made of five banded agate beads in a warm brown hue, each encircled by a light-colored band that wraps all the way around. The polished stone gleams against the black, matte-finished macramé cord; because the banding is natural to the stone, it varies from bead to bead.

In the Himalayas, banded agate beads have been worn as dzi for centuries and passed down through families for generations. The light-colored band running around the bead is traditionally interpreted as an “eye”—the beads have different names depending on the number of eyes they have.

The bracelet fastens with an adjustable sliding knot, the ends of which are each weighted with a small lava bead—it can be slipped over the hand without a clasp and adjusted to fit the wrist.
