For this traditional Tibetan-Himalayan piece of jewelry, we combine a Dzi stone with matching antique blood corals and knot them onto a waxed cotton band in black, brown or dark red, either adjustable or with a silver clasp (circumference 37 cm). In this way, simple yet symbolic and expressive individual pieces are created in our studio in Zurich - each with its own character, symbolism and special charisma.
Dzi stones are among the most sought-after beads from Tibet and the Himalayas. They are considered lucky charms and protective amulets and are traditionally worn on a string or in elaborate pieces of jewelry around the neck. Their name means "shine" and refers to their spiritual power. They are usually made of agate and feature characteristic patterns such as lines or eyes. The origin of ancient dzi is still shrouded in mystery and legend. The dzi used here are also made of agate and date from more recent times.
Corals have a deep cultural and spiritual significance in Tibetan jewelry. The red precious coral(Corallium rubrum) is particularly prized. As Tibet is a landlocked highland, corals have entered the country via centuries-old trade routes from the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia. The pearls used in our jewelry come from old pieces of jewelry and already have their own patina - they combine tradition, history and timeless beauty.
