1864 kilometers of trail running through an endangered world in Nepal.
The Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal is one of the longest and probably most difficult trails in the world. In some sections, it reaches an altitude of almost 6,000 meters. At the same time, however, the trail is also a lifeline for millions of people and an ancient trade route. The GHT is a world cultural asset - and it is in danger. More and more roads are replacing the trail and bringing civilization ever closer. As a result, people's everyday lives, which have hardly changed for centuries, are facing enormous change.
Journalist and runner Peter Hinze has covered over 1,800 kilometers on the trail. Divided into two journeys, he crossed the roof of the world in a total of 87 days - from Kanchenjunga to Makalu, via the Everest region, Langtang, Manaslu, Tibet, through the Annapurna region and the Kingdom of Mustang to the Indian border in the west.
This extraordinary book reports on this incomparable trail running adventure, but above all on his encounters with the people living there, with travelers, pilgrims and traders and their ways of life, traditions, hopes and perspectives in impressive pictures and captivating texts. In interviews, locals have their say and talk about the challenges facing the region. A chapter on Kathmandu, an information section on travel logistics and equipment as well as short descriptions of the daily stages round off the book.
This impressive book describes a unique running adventure on the Great Himalaya Trail and at the same time gives a voice to the people on the trail, whose lives are facing a major change.
