Messner, R: Yeti - Legend and reality

Reinhold Messner sighted the first specimen of the Yeti - known in our western cultures as the Snow Man - on a Himalayan expedition in 1986. Since then, he has undertaken various research trips, always in search of an answer to the Yeti riddle. In this book, we accompany Messner to the huts of remote mountain tribes, where the Yeti is feared as a harbinger of disaster, and follow Messner along the forbidden paths in the eastern Himalayas, where he is constantly on the run from the Chinese authorities, who have banned foreigners from entering the "wild" regions of Tibet. But this is precisely where the last Yeti specimens have retreated. It is a unique search for clues, and Messner's findings are clear: the snow man is alive - in the imagination of the Himalayan inhabitants and as an endangered animal species in eastern Tibet. The sum of this is the Yeti.
