Wool and Felt Yak – Loaded or Unloaded
Long, soft wool fleece, felted hooves and red wool tassels on the ears give this handmade yak figure its charm. As the pack animal of Tibetan nomads, the yak has always been indispensable, and to this day the animals of the highlands are adorned with red tassels and bells.
The yaks are made in a workshop in Dharamsala that offers work with flexible hours to Tibetan refugee women and women from nearby Indian villages. They learn the craft step by step alongside experienced doll makers. The figures are filled with cotton remnants from the workshop itself and pure sheep’s wool.
Available in black with light horns and a white tail, or in natural white with grey streaks and black horns, each either unloaded or loaded with a burgundy felt blanket and two fabric bundles in rust red and sand.
Height approx. 10 cm (unloaded) or approx. 13 cm (loaded) · Wool and felt, filled with cotton remnants and sheep’s wool · Handmade in Dharamsala, India
