Zambhala small copper statue
Characterful statue of Zambhala (Jambhala) made of copper - patinated in warm red-brown, with a lively surface texture and carefully chiseled details.
The deity sits in royal posture (Lalitasana) on a lotus throne with a pearl-studded rim, backed by an openwork flame aureole: the right leg is lowered and rests with the foot on a treasure vase (or shell) - the gesture of readiness to give at any time. The right hand lies open above the knee in varada mudra (gesture of giving) and holds the bijapuraka fruit (citrus fruit). The left hand holds the nakula (jewel-spitting mongoose) at the hip - his characteristic attribute, from which valuables are constantly flowing. The headdress and crown follow the Newari style with delicately crafted ornaments; the neck ornament and belt are carefully crafted to match the slightly corpulent stature. The face is calm.
Zambhala is the deity of wealth and prosperity - protector and giver of material and spiritual abundance. In his yellow form, he is considered the best known of the wealth deities, closely associated with Jambhala as the guardian of northern wealth. The jewel-spouting mongoose in his left hand symbolizes the inexhaustible flow of wealth; the treasure vase under his foot stands for hidden riches. A separate mantra is dedicated to him, which is invoked for abundance and the elimination of poverty - whereby tradition emphasizes that true wealth should always serve generosity and the Dharma.
The statue is intended for ritual filling - a traditional act of consecration that activates the figure as a Dharma object.
Made in a traditional artisan workshop in Nepal.
