Description of motif:
This thangka depicts Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha who lived in India as Siddhartha Gautama and attained enlightenment. He is depicted in a classical meditation posture, sitting on a colourful, open lotus flower, which symbolizes purity and enlightenment. His right hand touches the earth with outstretched fingers in the "earth-touch gesture" (bhumisparsha mudra), with which he invokes the earth as a witness to his enlightenment. In his left hand he holds a begging bowl filled with medicinal herbs, symbolizing his ascetic practice as well as healing and nourishment on a spiritual level.
He is dressed in a simple yet elaborately patterned monk's robe, symbolizing his humility and renunciation. His facial expression is peaceful, with a gently lowered gaze that expresses inner peace, compassion and deep awakening. A turquoise halo shines around his head, surrounded by floral ornaments and peony blossoms that embody beauty, compassion and renewal.
The background shows a vast landscape with trees, water and a wide sky, representing the infinite expanse of his compassion and the connection of all living beings with nature. Beneath the lotus is a richly decorated offering with ritual symbols and the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols that signify happiness, protection and the fulfillment of all wishes.
This thangka is reminiscent of the teachings of the Buddha and is used as an object of meditation, worship and inspiration for compassion, wisdom and inner peace.

- Take a thin strip of paper or thread.
- Wrap it around the part of the finger where you want the ring to sit (not too tight).
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Measure the length of the strip in millimeters. This is the inner circumference.
- Find the right size in the table.
