White Sage incense cords - handmade in Nepal

The raw material for these Nepalese incense strings - white sage (Salvia apiana) - comes from the North American west coast. It is not part of the traditional incense culture of the Himalayas, but has been added to our range by popular demand as a fragrant addition and as a symbolic greeting from another culture. Like our other incense cords, the White Sage cords are produced in Nepal.

White sage is traditionally used as an incense plant to cleanse rooms and auras and ward off negative energies. In medicine, it is used for coughs, night sweats, gingivitis and intestinal complaints, among other things. It also plays a role in gynecology - with sometimes contradictory effects, as it was used both for infertility and as a contraceptive. Its effect is based on the substance salvin, which is related to the ingredients of other medicinal plants such as wormwood, camphor or eucalyptus. When smoked, sage releases a clear, intense fragrance with a soft, slightly sweet aftertaste.

Each cord is approx. 9-10 cm long and a bundle contains around 35 cords. They are made entirely by hand.

To burn, the cord is hung on a hook or in a suitable incense cord holder, which is available separately from Atelier Tibet.
