Vishvavajra (Double Vajra) Pendant - Gold-plated copper, 45 mm
A striking pendant in the shape of a Vishvavajra, the crossed double vajra: Four three-pronged vajra heads radiate from a central lotus medallion in the four cardinal directions, each resting on a lotus pedestal, their prongs open outward. The simple vajra—Tibetan: dorje —is one of the central symbols of Tibetan Buddhism; the Sanskrit word vajra means both “diamond” and “thunderbolt,” thus combining indestructibility and irresistible power. In its crossed form, consisting of four lotus-supported vajra heads, the double vajra represents the principle of absolute stability. In the concept of Mount Meru and in the mandala, a large crossed vajra forms the immovable foundation upon which the whole rests. The piece is cast in full relief and finished on all sides; a sturdy eyelet allows the pendant to be worn on a chain or cord.
