This hand-carved spoon comes from the Himalayan region, probably Nepal or Tibet. It is made from a single piece of dark hardwood and shows clear traces of manual processing: The surface is irregularly faceted, indicating traditional work with a knife or axe. The elegantly curved hook at the end of the handle suggests that it was used for practical hanging in kitchens or altar areas.
Such spoons were used in everyday rural life for scooping water, butter tea or tsampa. Due to its shape and design, it could also be a ritual object - for example, for scooping out consecrated water or ghee during ceremonies.
Provenance: The object comes from a private collection. It was acquired in Nepal around 1960. Details on request.
