Hovest, Y: One hundred days in Tibet

In 2011, photographer York Hovest accompanied the Dalai Lama during his visit to Germany. During this encounter, he made him promise to portray his country and show the world what it looks like today. After a year of preparation for this almost impossible journey, York Hovest set off on a breathtaking expedition: he spent a hundred days in Tibet - on foot, on a motorcycle and by car. Time and again, he ventured into inaccessible and forbidden terrain that visitors rarely venture into. This venture was only possible with the active help of the Tibetans, who allowed him to share their lives and placed great trust in him. York Hovest accompanied them to secret places, reached the limits of his physical endurance and that of his camera equipment at minus 30 degrees at an altitude of 6000 meters. In impressive images, he not only captures the sublime landscape, but also the soul of this mysterious country with poignant portraits of Tibetan nomads and monks.
