Necklace made from large foam coral beads

Necklace made from large foam coral beads with a diameter of 1.4 cm. The necklace is fastened with a silver hook clasp, measures 46 cm in circumference and weighs 76 g. Handmade in the Atelier Tibet in Zurich.

Foam coral comes from coral with a porous interior and is usually stabilized with resin and dyed red. It is cheaper than precious coral, but has a similarly warm and noble appearance. In Tibet, coral is a symbol of protection and vitality and is often used in prayer beads. Due to its porous structure, foam coral should should not come into contact with acids or perfumeto preserve its color and surface.
