Mani stone with the Tibetan "OM" ཨོཾ

Traditional Tibetan mani stone made of gray slate, carved by hand in Nepal. The surface of the stone bears the Tibetan Om (ཨོཾ) - the first and most sacred syllable of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum - in large, precise Uchen script. In Tibetan Buddhism, Om stands for the enlightened qualities of the Buddha's body, speech and mind and is regarded as the primordial sound of the universe.

Mani stones are of great importance in Tibetan Buddhist culture. They are stones, pebbles or slates on which the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" is engraved. This is why they are also known as "Mani stones". They are often engraved with Buddhas, Tibetan symbols or the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha.

The engraved stones are placed at places of pilgrimage and pilgrimage routes. In Nepal, these colorful stones can be admired everywhere on paths, walls, hills and in Tibetan monasteries. Their purpose is to overcome obstacles in life and to purify the karma of the deceased to enable a happier rebirth.

The making and carving of mani stones is a traditional sadhana of piety. Our mani stones are made in a traditional workshop in Nepal.
