Mug with hemp leaf motif ("Asanoha")

An elegant, straight-sided cup in deep cobalt blue, overlaid with a delicate white lattice of six-pointed stars—strictly geometric, precisely placed, and continuous all around. The pattern is known as Asanoha , “hemp leaf”: The hemp plant grows quickly and straight, which is why the motif is traditionally associated with healthy growth in Japan and has long been a popular choice for children’s clothing. The unglazed base in warm terracotta and the brown rim line frame the design; the interior of the cup remains glazed in a light, subdued tone. The curved handle fits comfortably in the hand.
