This gold-plated copper statue in antique style depicts Avalokiteshvara ( Chenrezig in Tibetan), the Bodhisattva of all-encompassing compassion. The figure is handcrafted in Nepal and has an antique-style patina, which gives it an authentic, timeless look.
Avalokiteshvara sits in a meditative posture on the lotus throne. The hands folded in front of his chest (Anjali mudra) stand for devotion, mindfulness and the oneness of compassion and wisdom. The crowned depiction with finely crafted decorative elements, folds in the robe and ornamental details is typical of classic Nepalese-Tibetan iconography. The gilding deliberately shows age-related nuances.
Avalokiteshvara embodies compassion, mercy and the wish to remove suffering from all sentient beings. He is considered a protective figure and the embodiment of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. The Anjali gesture emphasizes the attitude of inner prayer, connectedness and opening of the heart.
