This large, traditional vessel made of solid wood probably originates from Nepal or Tibet and was originally used to store or process yak milk - for making butter or yoghurt, for example. A characteristic feature is the handle carved from the solid wood, whose curved shape is reminiscent of an animal motif. Such zoomorphic elements are typical of utilitarian objects from the rural Himalayan region and testify to a deep connection with nature and the animal world. The beautiful patina of the wood tells of decades of use and gives the object its special charisma.
Provenance: The object comes from a private collection. It was acquired in Nepal around 1960. Details on request.
