Thangka Pendant Yellow Lion, hand-painted · CHARU × Rimou Thangka

Lively pendant featuring a hand-painted miniature thangka in a titanium setting. It depicts a lion with a white face, rosy cheeks, and a light yellow mane, paws tucked under its chin, peering mischievously over a parapet. Above this runs a frieze with a white cube pattern, typical of Tibetan architecture. The inspiration comes from lions in ancient wall paintings in a Tibetan cave, which reveal the sense of humor of the painters of that time. In the Tibetan cultural sphere, the lion represents courage and strength. The brushed reverse side, framed by corner ornaments, shows the "Ten-Fold Powerful" (Tib. Namchu Wangden), the monogram of the Kalachakra Tantra. The miniature is painted by students at the Limin Vocational Training School in Yushu in the Tibetan cultural region (Kham), a non-profit school that offers children from nomadic families free training in thangka painting and handicrafts. The pendant hangs on a braided black and beige cord, the length of which can be adjusted using a sliding knot.

Pendant 4.9 × 3.9 × 0.8 cm · Cord circumference adjustable up to 88 cm · 29 g incl. cord · Titanium, hand-painted thangka · Hand-painted in the Tibetan cultural region (Kham)
