Dzambhala Water Offering Set (Chutor) - Hammered Copper

This Tibetan water offering set, crafted from hammered copper and adorned with finely engraved bands of flowers, vines, and clouds, is richly detailed and has a warm, lustrous sheen. Silver-colored mountings frame the rims and decorative fittings, while a small turquoise cabochon on the spout adds a splash of color. The set includes an offering jug with a lid and a sculpted dragon or makara head serving as the spout, a large, shallow offering bowl, seven small offering bowls, and a delicate stand.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the water offering known as “Chutor” is dedicated to Dzambhala (also Jambhala), who is regarded as the deity of prosperity. It involves the symbolic offering of water, accompanied by prayers and mantras; in this tradition, the practice is associated with generosity and abundance. As far as can be seen, an endless knot—one of the eight symbols of good fortune—is engraved on the jug.
