This large, highly cylindrical turned vessel made of solid wood features fine decorative lines all around. It probably originates from Nepal or Tibet and was used to store drinking water. The shape is functionally simple and robust, the neck slightly flared for easy filling and emptying.
The vessel shows a deep, brown-red patina caused by use and exposure to the elements - a sign of its use in everyday rural life in the Himalayas.
Provenance: The object comes from a private collection. It was acquired in Nepal around 1960. Details on request.
