Prayer wheels are central ritual objects in Tibetan Buddhism. They consist of a rotating cylinder that is filled or inscribed with mantras, usually "Om Mani Padme Hum". Turning the wheel symbolizes the recitation of prayers and spreads blessings and compassion. Prayer wheels are made from materials such as copper, silver or wood and exist in hand-held, stationary or wearable form, for example as a pendant. Their rotation is said to purify karma, overcome obstacles and generate positive energy. They combine meditation and ritual with the wish for peace for all living beings.
