Tibetan travel altar "Ghau" with Green Tara statue
Medium-sized Buddhist traveling shrine "Ghau" (also "Gao" or "Gau") made of white metal and copper, with a statue of the Green Tara. The metal is richly decorated with the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" and a snow lion. The ghau is protected with a cover made of silk brocade with a strap with which it can be worn around the neck. Made in a traditional workshop in Nepal, with a vintage patina.
Ghau are metal containers of various sizes, usually made of metal, often decorated with symbolic images and mantras. Pilgrims carry them as a personal altar to experience protection and spiritual power. Sacred objects such as miniature images of deities or mantras are kept inside. It is a personal spiritual refuge that enables believers to take their practice with them wherever they go, whether on pilgrimages or in everyday life, and symbolizes protection and connection with the divine.
