"Rainbow" Thangka Pendant, hand-painted · CHARU × Rimou Thangka

A vibrant rectangular pendant featuring a hand-painted thangka miniature: Delicate rays in orange, red, blue, and green radiate outward from the center, forming a rainbow in motion. The image is set in a narrow, matte-brushed titanium steel frame; the reverse side bears an engraved Kalachakra syllable beneath an arch of flames, framed by cloud motifs in the corners. In Tibetan culture, the rainbow is one of the symbols of a perfect moment, and the monogram on the back—the Namchu Wangden, the “tenfold powerful” syllable—condenses the core syllables of the Kalachakra Tantra into a single character. The pendant is worn on a hand-braided cord with a colored knotted section; the length can be adjusted up to approximately 70 cm using the sliding knots.

The miniatures are painted at the Suomo Thangka Studio in Luhuo, Eastern Tibet. The studio carries on the Langkajie painting tradition, which was established over 400 years ago, and trains young painters from the region.

CHARU connects designers with artisan cooperatives in the Tibetan cultural region and uses these connections to develop products that bring traditional techniques into everyday life.
